Originally from Manila, Philippines, Kristine Aguilar moved to Vancouver as a child. In 2017, Kristine launched her own ceramics brand called LUPA, which was inspired by the Tagalog word meaning earth, soil, land, or country; paying homage to her heritage as well as the the raw materials involved in ceramic making.
Kristine discovered her love for clay and wheel-throwing while attending Langara College. She continued her education in Montréal and graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Concordia University in 2009.
Since finishing school, Kristine has had the opportunity to work in month-long artist residencies in Mexico and Japan. In 2017, she was featured in the Gallery of BC Ceramics' Emerging Artist Showcase and Scout Magazine.
Kristine currently works out of her studio in East Vancouver where she is continuously testing, making, and altering glazes with the hope of creating new surfaces and colours. All of her work is wheel-thrown and uses non-commercial food safe glazes.
